Basic strategy is the mathematically optimal way to play every hand in blackjack. It minimises the house edge to around 0.5% depending on the rules.
When the chart says Double (D), you should double your bet and take exactly one more card. If doubling isn't allowed, hit instead. Ds means stand if doubling isn't allowed.
Late surrender (Rh/Rs) means you forfeit half your bet instead of playing the hand. If surrender isn't available, follow the fallback action (hit or stand).
This chart assumes the dealer stands on soft 17, double after split is allowed, and late surrender is available. Adjust slightly if the casino uses different rules.
